A Legacy of Quality, Dependability, and Service
Achilles began in February 1976 when Lloyd Achilles founded Achilles Sheet Metal Works. Rooted in hard work and a commitment to precision craftsmanship, the company quickly established a reputation for excellence in the Tucson community.
In 1979, Lloyd’s son, Preston Achilles, joined the company to open a dedicated contracting division. Under his leadership throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Achilles expanded its scope from custom homes and light commercial systems into large-scale commercial, industrial, and medical HVAC projects. The team became the go-to experts for highly technical, specialized environments, including clean manufacturing spaces, telecom operations, and server room environmental control systems.
Growing into the Third Generation
The family legacy continued in 1998 when Preston’s son, Jon Achilles, joined the team full-time after learning the trade from the ground up. Today, as a proud third-generation company, Jon leads Achilles into the future—maintaining the strict standards of quality and customer trust that have been our driving force for over 40 years.
To better serve our clients and provide a truly comprehensive approach to mechanical contracting, Achilles added full-service Electrical and Plumbing divisions in 2016. This evolution allows us to seamlessly coordinate, manage, and execute complex, multi-trade projects under a single, dependable umbrella.

Preston was born in Missouri and relocated to Tucson in 1970. Preston joined his father Lloyd in 1979 to open a contracting division. During the 80’s and 90’s Preston broadened the division to include larger commercial, industrial and medical HVAC work. Preston has served with Arizona Builders Alliance for over 20 years and was a past president. Now in its third generation, Preston’s son Jon has taken over the company and continues to build on the reputation Preston maintained for quality, dependability and service that has been our driving force for 40 years.
